Carrie Muskat has confirmed that Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been placed on the 10-day DL. Rizzo missed the last three games in Milwaukee and was not in the line up for the home opener before being postponed. He had been dealing with a stiff back. They did not make it seem like it was serious, but more precautionary.
Muskat also confirmed that the DL stint technically started on the sixth, so it will not be ten days from now until he comes back.
It is natural to worry about the face of your team going on the DL with back issues. Though, right now it is still probably nothing major. The fact that the stint will be half over tomorrow shows that he just needs enough time to rest his back and be guaranteed 100%. Now is the time to be precautionary early on and not risk anything.
It stinks that he cannot be at the opening series against the Pirates, but being cautious is perfectly fine.
