As first reported by Bruce Levine of 670 the Score, Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer have landed in Dallas this afternoon to meet with free agent pitcher Yu Darvish.
Darvish, 31, posted a combined 3.86 ERA with the Rangers and Dodgers last season while striking out 209, good for 12th among pitchers last season.
The Cubs have made pitching a priority this offseason. With the loss of John Lackey, Hector Rondon and the likely-hood that Jake Arrieta is not coming back to the Cubs, Joe Maddon needs another quality starter. The Cubs have signed Tyler Chatwood, who posted solid numbers away from Coors Field last season, and have upgraded their bullpen with the signings of Brandon Morrow, Steve Chisek, and Drew Smyly.
The former CY Young runner up in 2013 would be a great addition to the North Siders. A rotation of Jon Lester, Jose Quintana, Kyle Hendricks, Yu Darvish, and Tyler Chatwood would be one helluva pitching staff.
For the price of his contract, I have seen anywhere from $110 million over four years to MLB Trade Rumors projecting Darvish to sign with the Cubs on a six-year deal worth $160 million.
So Cubs fans, do you see Darvish pitching at Clark and Addison?
