The Chicago Bears bolstered their defensive front with the signing of NT John Jenkins to a one-year deal on Friday.
Jenkins, a third round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2013, has appeared in 51 games in his NFL career, making 22 starts.
The 6’ 3” 359lb nose-tackle will now give the Bears a guy behind Eddie Goldman at the NT position. Jenkins has 113 career tackles, 49 coming in his best season in 2014 with the Saints.
The Georgia product was signed by the Seattle Seahawks on November 15th, 2016. He appeared in two games but only totaled three sacks.
Jenkins adds more size and strength to the D-line in Chicago. Jenkins will no doubt be in the mix with Goldman and Will Sutton at NT. Jenkins is a run stopper and with his size, can plug up gaps and take on double-teams. He’s not a known pass rusher, but you can rely on him for the run game.
Bears GM Ryan Pace was the Saints director of player personal in 2013 when the Saints picked Jenkins. Also, Jenkins reunites with former teammate Akiem Hicks as both played together while in New Orleans.
