Bears sign Prince Amukamara, adding competition at cornerback

The Bears officially signed Price Amukamara on Saturday to a one-year deal.

Amukamara, a former first round pick by the New York Giants in 2011, spend last season with the Jackonsillve Jaguars after five season in NY. In 14 games last season, Amukamara had 0 INTs and 6 PD. While the 0 INTs may be of concern, many say that overall he had a positive season. And, signing him to a one-year deal is a low-risk move.

This is the Bears first cornerback they have signed in free agency after missing out on Logan Ryan, A.J. Bouye, and Stephon Gilmore.

Amukamara joins a cornerback group of Tracy Porter, Kyle Fuller, Cre’von LeBlanc, Deiondre’ Hall, and Bryce Callahan. This brings great competition to fight for the starting  job.

The Bears are looking to add more at the position as it is one of their top needs on the roster. CB Marcus Cooper visited the Bears yesterday. Cooper, entering his fifth season in the NFL, had 4 interceptions in 15 games last season in Arizona.

The Bears on Saturday also re-signed LB Christian Jones to a one-year deal.
