Bulls fans are still scratching their heads over their latest front office move on Thursday as they sent Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott and a 2nd – rounder to Oklahoma City for Cameron Payne, Joffrey Lauvergne and Anthony Morrow…but there was still a game to play the next day.
After trailing most of the 2nd half, the Bulls came-back and defeated the Phoenix Suns 128-121 at the United Center. Cameron Payne was battling the flu so he was inactive; Lauvergne and Morrow were also inactive in their first days as a Bull.
Jimmy Butler led the way in minutes with 43, and despite having a not-so-great game the first three quarters, he took over the game late. Butler hit a game-tying three pointer when down 106-103 and hit another FG and the game would go to overtime tied after Devin Booker made 2/3 free throws to knot it at 108.
Bulls controlled overtime scoring 20 points including a vintage slam from Dwayne Wade, who led the team in points with 23. Butler finished the night with 22 points, three rebounds and nine assists. Niko Mirotic added 20 points off the bench, tying his season high. Denzel Valentine got some good playing time tonight with 34 minutes scoring 15 points and five assists.
The 29-29 Bulls face the 40-16 Cleveland Cavilers in Cleveland Saturday night as they look to stop their four-game win streak.
